Choosing The Right Animal For My Kids

I have always been one of those people who loves animals, but the same can't be said for my kids. They had a natural tendency to shy away from pets from an early age, and it was really interesting to see how much of a difference it made to start looking into buying an animal. We talked with them about the different breeds we were considering, and before we knew it, they had warmed to the idea. Check out this blog for great information on choosing the right animal for your children, so they can stay safe and happy every day.

Important Things To Know Before Bringing Home Your Goldendoodle Pup

They're part poodle and part Golden retriever. They're furry, friendly, and family-oriented. Goldendoodles are incredible dogs; there is no doubt about that. However, there are some important things for you to know before you bring a Goldendoodle puppy home to your family.

Their size does vary.

People tend to think of Goldendoodles are medium to large-sized dogs. Most definitely fit this description. However, there are Goldendoodles who are on the smaller side because they come from the cross-breeding of a miniature poodle and a golden retriever. Make sure you talk to the breeder who you get your puppy from about the puppy's expected adult size. They won't be able to tell you exactly how large your dog will be in adulthood, but they can give you a general idea, which is important with a cross-breed that has so much size variability.

They can be very high-energy.

You're probably used to seeing Goldendoodles snuggling with their owners on the couch, relaxing on their beds, and walking calmly down the sidewalk. These dogs do have quiet moments, and they do love relaxing with their people. However, most also have a really high-energy side that is important to be aware of. Especially when they are puppies, it's important for them to have an outlet for this energy. Build lots of playtime and exercise into your dog's routine. If they get their sillies out, then they will be more relaxed and at ease during their downtime.

They should be socialized early.

Goldendoodles are generally good at interacting with other dogs, but this is still a skill they need to work on developing. You'll want to socialize with your dog early on. Make plans to bring them to puppy classes and puppy hangouts. The waiting list for some of these groups and classes can be long, so consider signing up and getting on the schedule before you even bring your puppy home.

They do need to be groomed.

Your young Goldendoodle pup won't immediately need to see the groomer for a haircut, but this is something to plan for. Their coats grow very long and need to be trimmed. It's best to start taking your pup to the groomer when they are young so they get used to it. So, as soon as you bring your Goldendoodle pup home, start looking for local groomers who work with the breed.

Hopefully, the information above serves you well as you bring home your fabulous Goldendoodle puppy. These dogs can be lovely to own, and at all ages.
